The recovery room is used in seclusion or allowing the student to have alone time where they cannot hurt themselves or others. These rooms are often padded. They may or may not have a chair depending on the behaviors preceding the student's need to calm down. There is generally a window in the door so that staff members can observe the student if the situation has become unsafe for staff members to be in the same room as the student. There should always be two staff members present when a recovery room is being used.
Documenting Recover Room Usage:
For legal purposes, data collection, and communication with parents, staff members and others who have a right to know it is essential to record the events preceding, during and following the use of the Recovery Room. There are many ways to record this information below are attached a few documents that have been used to record this information. The more information that is recorded, the better the overall outcomes can be. The more protected staff members, students, and the school district will be.
