Functional Skills, life skills or developmental resource rooms are a placement for students with severe disabilities. In this placement, students learn to accomplish self-help skills as well as basic academic skills. These skills are necessary for daily life and are skills that if the individual is unable to do, others will need to complete these tasks. These skills, once taught, can be immediately applied to improve their environment. The purpose of these classes are to assist students in becoming as independent as possible in light of their abilities and limitations.
