Oppositional Defiance Disorder is a pattern of angry, irritable, argumentative defiant behavior that lasts for a minimum of six months with documentation. Students with ODD have a general mistrust of adults and authority figures. They may show signs such as losing their temper, easily annoyed, angry, resentful, talking back, and blame others. In the classroom it can be helpful to offer choices, set boundaries, BIPS, and teach that emotions are okay. It is not uncommon for ODD to occur alongside another disability/disorder.
