Tourette's is characterized by ticks such as blinking, facial grimacing, jaw movements, head bobbing/jerking, shoulder shrugging, neck stretching, and jerking are physical ticks. Vocal ticks can include sniffing, throat clearing, and words. It is diagnosed with two movement ticks and one vocal tick are present. Ticks may wax and wane. It is typically diagnosed at age 5-7 with growing severity as they get older. Tourette’s is 3-4 times more common in boys than in girls and is comorbid with other disabilities. Treatment is medications and therapies.
