BipolarBipolar is a form of depression. It is characterized by periods of depression and mania. States of feeling normal between the periods can last for years. Typical onset of bipolar is age 25 years old. During the period of mania, people are unaware of the consequences of their actions, they may feel good and find it appealing after periods of depression. They may also be suicidal during this time. The depressive period may range from mild to severe. It is a loss of energy, weight fluctuations, obsessed with feelings of failure. Types of Bipolar are Bipolar 1, Bipolar 2, Cyclothymia, and unspecified Bipolar. Bipolar 1 has more severe periods of mania. Bipolar 2 is less severe with hypomania episodes. Cyclothymia is a chronic instability in moods, experience hypomania and mild depression for at least 2 years. Treatment includes medication, therapy and self-help.
