Differentiation occurs during the lesson when a teacher adjusts the curriculum and instruction to maximize the learning of all students. It happens as a teacher notices the needs of a particular student or a class. This can be beneficial for average learners, ELL (English Language Learner), struggling students, and students with learning disabilities. This works best as teachers get to know their students. This means that at the beginning of the year this can be more difficult than at the end or middle of the year.
