Risk factors include anything psychologically, environmentally, genetically that puts the student at risk for physical or emotional health problems or behavior disorders. The more risk factors children experience, the more likely they are to have problems. Three examples of risk factors are: -physical abuse -parent substance abuse -age -gender -alcohol/drug use.
Protective Factors
Protective factors are aspects that protect children from other problems such as emotional behavioral disorders, health problems and other later issues. These are attributes, conditions, factors decrease the likelihood of later issues. The more protective factors they experience, the more likely they are to function well and experience success. Protective factors include a healthy diet, supportive family and friends, academic accomplishment, emotional regulation, coping skills, extra-curricular activities, and reading for pleasure.
