Ignore misbehavior only if it likely will not persist, if it is not dangerous to others and if giving attention to the behavior might actually reinforce it.
BE LIKE A SHARK.... aware of everything students are doing whether they are engaged in whole group, small group, or individual work.
- arrange the classroom so you have an unrestricted view of the entire area - scan the classroom regularly to spot potential problems - avoid sitting at your desk and having students come to you during independent study time
Mention a student's name during the activity to gain the attention of a disruptive student
Example: "while reading on page 34. Brittany, be sure to look for the answer to the first question."
Proximity!!!!!
Move closer to the disruptive student
Move around the classroom during instruction and make eye contact with specific students
Change the seating chart
Changing the seating chart can really help change the atmosphere of the classroom. Students who are talkers can be separated. Students who are easily distracted can be moved to the front of the room.
