Childhood trauma can be disruptive to the child's ability to perceive safety. If children experience a high amount of stress, then they are likely to be desensitized to some traumatic events.
When the traumatic events a child experiences are not resolved appropriately, this can lead to a series of consequences on the child's later life. The child may experience feelings of fear and helplessness. This will set the stage for more trauma later in life. No matter what age a person is when they experience trauma or how much time has passed since the trauma has occurred, a person can find healing and regain emotional balance.
