Assistive Technology ranges from low to high tech. When working with students in using technology, it is important to consider where the student currently functions then build on that current ability. For example if a child doesn't know their alphabet, then handing a child a computer with a keyboard will not help them (or will be complete overkill) in reaching the goal of knowing and writing letters. This helps prevent the student from becoming overwhelmed or frustrated.
Assistive Technology doesn't need to be expensive. There are many devices that are free or have minimal costs associated with their use. |
