A discussion is similar to a debate but differs in purpose. In a discussion, there is an exchange of ideas to reach a decision about a topic. Unlike a debate, a discussion is often informal and can take the form of a conversation. When implemented in the classroom, discussions allow students to ask and answers one another's questions as well as share insights to gain a deeper understanding of a topic. A discussion can be prompted by a question or idea.
