Students create a poster that shows their ideas or work. The class then goes on a walk rotating from poster to poster to discuss and leave feedback.
When to use a gallery walk
Gallery Walks can be used anytime. When used in conjunction with a jigsaw strategy, students can be divided into groups and share new information they learned. It can also be used at the end of a unit to display projects that were done throughout the unit or to review information. Students can write their comments on a sheet of paper and turn them in as an assignment. It can also be helpful to assign a number to each piece of work.
Variation on this:
- Instead of having student work at each stop, put a review question for students to answer and turn in - Instead of putting student work, put up a word that students need to find the definition of - put up page numbers for the students to read - Instead of putting up student work, put up a math problem for students to solve
